Bershan Shaw is a Warrior
All the way from Washington, DC, I knew that I was headed for the Big Apple to get into the entertainment business when I was a little girl. I got my first years of training at Syracuse University and then received a master’s from New York University where I did theater work in New York City and appeared in many graduate and independent films.
I consider myself a woman of many faucets. I’m a writer, actor and restaurateur. It’s been a great year for me regarding my screenplays. My script “Winter Dreams” made it to the quarter finals at the prestigious Zoetrope Contest sponsored by Francis Ford Coppola and my other script “Time Will Tell” made it to the quarterfinals at The American Screenwriter’s Association (ASA) and Slam dance both of which are prominent contests with thousands of participants.
Two years ago, I ventured off to open a restaurant/lounge called Haven to help support myself while pursuing my acting and writing career. Although it has been a journey being an African-American woman in an all boy’s restaurant network I have made Haven a success and it is still standing.
Through my learning experiences, I have found out that my true passion is to give back and that’s why I started urawarrior.com. I realized that there was a void in the social network marketplace where people can go to an internet community and discuss or express their feelings and issues. When I was battling breast cancer, I needed a place to chat or email someone without judgement or embarrassment and that’s why now I am bringing you warriors to express yourself.
